About

There are Humanist groups in Manchester and Sheffield, but there is no formal group in Derbyshire. This blog is an attempt to gather information about Humanism in Derbyshire, if anyone is interested in helping to set up a group, please get in touch!

SACRE

The curriculum for Religious Education in schools is set by the Local Authority, who are legally required to set the Agreed Syllabus every 5 years. RE and collective worship in schools are overseen by the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) that meets 3 times per year, in Derby and Matlock respectively. Meetings are open to the public. Both Derby City and Derbyshire County Council SACREs have a Humanist representative, who work to inform and promote the inclusion of non-religious viewpoints in the curriculum.

School Speakers

Schools can request a Humanist school speaker via the British Humanist Association, or via the Derby Open Centre. Schools in north  Derbyshire or High Peak areas can request a school speaker via Greater Manchester Humanists.
